folding quilts
A downloadable Zine
a folded quilt is a hidden quilt
I learned to sew from my mom and my oma. I keep several of their quilts around the apartment, but since I don't have enough room to display all of them on the walls, they stay folded up most of the time and I only see a little bit of them.
For this month's zine, an infinite flipper/flexagon, I wanted to embody the loveliness of revealing each quilt square, as well as the tension in not being able to see the entire work at once. The squares themselves are digital collages made from scans of my current quilting project, a (mostly) 1930s-print bedspread that includes the first fabric my oma bought for me and some recycled dresses.

Download includes the graphics and a tutorial for part of the folding process to ensure that the quilt squares turn out correctly. For a full tutorial, check out Paper Folds' video.
I recommend printing double-sided on 20# (printer paper) or 24# paper. The 24# is slightly heavier, so the folds are a bit less forgiving, but it has a nice sturdy feel to it.
As always, thank you for taking a look at my work! I'm happy to share it with whoever comes by :)
